AexNSAgent.exe high cpu utilization

Just in case anyone else starts experiencing this problem, it’s beginning to look like it may be machines desperately trying to catch up on patch management inventory as we started power managing the machines in question 6 months or so ago, for some reason the agents appear to be playing catch up despite regular use - with the power management policies removed it does seem to be alleviated to a good extent, although the client Ns agent gui still hits the roof for a few moments whenever inspecting the agent locally which is definitely not behaviour we’ve seen before. |

Licensing (Symantec Licensing Portal)

Hi Chris, have you had any more news on this yet? I’ve chased this with our vendor regularly since they switched the portal over and it’s a known issue - but a month later and still no fix….
I’d be keen to hear if you’ve had any progress. |

What do you think of Wise 8?

I’m desperate to upgrade to 8 but Symantec still haven’t sent me a keycode for 8 despite our AUP renewals having gone through earlier in the year. I’m trying to chase this with our partner however and they can’t even see evidence of our purchasing wise at all!
It’s my understanding that we received one wise package studio license with each 1000 nodes of cms level 2, but I’m not sure anyone remembers the old licensing anymore!
I’ll definitely report back here once I finally sort this mess out though - has been a month waiting for symantec to fix their licensing portal so far though so no high hopes it will be any time soon! |

KB articles I’ve tried just to save anyone suggesting them again:

not all relevant but they were worth looking at for ideas.
We’re on latest NS 6 (sp3) and running all the latest solution agents |

AexNSAgent.exe high cpu utilization

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has seen this or has any ideas? It’s affecting a huge number of our xp boxes very badly, and quite possibly all of them to a lesser extent. Utilization is 100% of one core or two at times, for at least the first 45mins after machine boots, possibly reappearing throughout the day but it’s hard to keep an eye on a machine ALL day whilst busy! No new tasks have been added via ns for a very long time now. The only recent changes on the NS server have been an install of SEPIC for testing and a recent problem after our license renewal (symantec have still not fixed my licenses since changing their licensing portal) however all our solutions finally appear to be licensed properly with the correct AUP. It did however cause a massive bug which i found a kb for that made me wipe all the certificates on the machine and start again.
I’ve logged a support call but I thought I’d ask you all too!
Thanks in advance for any responses. |

Windows 7 and Altiris 6.9 SP2 - Application installations

I had very similar experiences with Vista, usually needing to specify a domain admin account that all my DS installs ran as, cloning all my XP jobs that previously ran as system and having separate Vista jobs. I did spend a month or two with Symantec support to get a reliable solution and got nowhere. Not a problem if there is any administrator logged on usually, I’ve had the same experience in 7. Whilst going through this with Symantec support I found some interesting stuff in the NS agent logs that seemed to be pertinent, usually these were only appearing in the logs whilst Vista machines had no user logged on:
process=’AeXNSAgent.exe’ pid=’644’ thread=’788’ tickCount=’38454’ >
< ![CDATA[UI thread failed to impersonate logged on user: The operation being requested was not performed because the user has not logged on to the network. The specified service does not exist (1245)]]>
If you ask me neither of the core Altiris agents have been working as they should on Vista and now 7, whether it’s due to actions from MS or not, it’s a huge concern for me. |

Symantec - Product updates and maintenance annoucements

Thanks Mark and John. Unfortunately with most of the releases in the knowledge base you have to know the products are out to subscribe! It’s good for SP/MP releases for products but major revisions I have to find out about alone it seems. (I subscribed to get DS release note updates but received nothing when SP2 hit, only when SP1 MP1 was updated on the same page). We have an Altiris partner directly reccomended to us by Symantec at the time but I think with limited engineers and bigger customers we’re unlikely to ever be proactively contacted.
Just today I noticed there were more updates for solutions in 6.x when searching the knowledgebase - for application metering and a few others that don’t appear on the solution centre or solutionsam pages, but most recently I was annoyed to find out that SWV 6.1MP1 was available. Not only did we have no way of knowing that besides constantly taking the time out to search for solution updates for dozens of products, but on the solution centre SVS was even multiple versions behind! Given that I’ve had enormous problems with SVS I kept checking solution centre again and again hoping for updates.
I guess I can’t expect any decent kind of focus on 6 now that 7 is out though, but these problems started long before. I can accept it but I do think it’s a real shame that the products own solution centre isn’t even updated, when it’s supposed to be where you can check for solution updates with ease, and upgrade them. |

Hi Everyone,
My first time round posting in here but glad I finally have somewhere I can touch base with UK admins.
My first question to everyone is: Do any of you as Symantec/Altiris customers ever actually receive any kind of open communiation from them? Specifically regarding to new version of products, updates, and maintenance fixes etc? Having hung out with US admins in the Altiris Chatroom for a very long while now - every day I increasingly get the feeling that we’re left in the dark over here, whilst the US customers receive product briefings and updates, and generally the kind of service you might expect from any decent account manager really! Even critical service packs and maintenance packs I only ever find out about if I happen to see an issue mentioned in that chat. There are plenty of other benefits for US users too like free training sessions run out of various US offices.
This post isn’t meant to be a whine, but instead to ask if we’re alone in this situation or do other people in the UK actually at least get acknowledged and talked to by Symantec and their partners?
